Središte tajfuna Hagibis stiglo je do japanskog kopna jugozapadno od Tokija na poluotok Izu.

Tajfun se sada kreće duž istočne obale vjetrovima brzine oko 225 kilometara na sat. 

Dvije osobe su poginule uslijed nevremena, a najmanje 60 ljudi je ozlijeđeno.

Više od sedam miliona ljudi pozvano je da napuste svoje domove zbog opasnosti od poplava i odrona, no vjeruje se da će ih tek 50.000 otići u skloništa.

Onemogućen je željeznički promet, a preko hiljadu letova je prizemljeno.

Hiljade domova u subotu je ostalo bez električne energije u Tokiju i okolnom području.  

Japanska meteorološka agencija upozorila je da bi u nevremenu moglo pasti i 500 litara kiše po kvadratnom metru u području Tokija do sredine nedjelje. 

Tajfun Hagibis, što znači “brzina” na filipinskom jeziku tagalog, na kopno bi trebao stići na japanskom glavnom otoku Honshu u subotu navečer.

Hagibis bi mogao biti najveća oluja još od tajfuna Vere 1959. Vera je pogodila Japan vjetrovima od 306 kilometara na sat pri čemu je više od 5.000 ljudi stradalo ili nestalo.
